Canceled Shows on Network TV

TV networks really need to get their act in gear to find a way to properly track and monetize their shows. They are canceling tons of shows simply because their ratings are poor. But the numbers these networks are getting are inaccurate. They don’t account for folks that don’t watch the shows live.

I watch most of my programming from TiVo recordings or online from network websites. Most of my favorite shows are being cancled. I just learned that Traveler, my new favorite show for the Summer, has been canceled. Only 2 episodes remain for the series. The other TV shows that I watch that have been canceled are:

- The Black Donnellys
- The Nine
- Studio 60
- Notes from the Underbelly

Fortunately, ABC has decided to air the remaining 6 episodes of The Nine starting August 1.

Notes From the Underbelly has not been cancelled. It has been picked up for mid-season with an order of 12 episodes.

Hi there! Yes, networks are very “cancel” happy. How many viewers do you have to have to keep a show on the air? What is the magic number? I DVR too so how is that accounted for? It would be interesting to know how many viewers Seinfeld had in the first couple of years? I have searched but have not found that information.

The Black Donnellys fans, dubbed as the firecrackers, have a campaign in place to target HBO to pick up the show! It is currently being aired on HDnet on Wednesday nights. Here are some links:

Please check us out! We need all the help we can get to show the networks that they can’t just keep cancelling our shows! Isn’t 5 million viewers enough? At least at the beginning??

    Thanks again for posting!

I just wanted to let you know that there is a Save the Black Donnellys Campaign underway. The campaign is trying to organize a movement similar to the one that brought back Jericho. Please join us at http://thefirecrackerlounge.com/firecracker/index.php?board=42.0 and http://www.savetheblackdonnellys.net We are focusing on HBO because they may be the most interested. Our main goal is to try to get a second season of TBD on another channel.

So far we’ve raised $1,039.00 (that’s 346lbs of crackers or 55,413 crackers) and have just sent the first shipment of 60lbs of crackers! We plan to send a shipment a week, for as long as we have the funds from the donations.

    Hope you can join us!
